Thursday Oct 18th

Thursday Oct 18th

I heard myself say-
I have a lot of self-control when I want to.

Then I laughed.

But I do pride myself in being able to commit to something difficult when I put my mind to it.

It’s Thursday and on Thursdays we deliver meals to a handful of those
who need it .

We saw Joseph who loves baseball and Nancy who always comes to the door
with a brightly colored shower cap on and red lipstick a bit outside the lines of her lips.  There’s Robert battling cancer and Patricia whose eyesight has just about failed.  And Nikki who says each time we see her—“Is it Thursday again already? Why I just can’t believe it! ”.  We hope all enjoyed the spaghetti and jello salad.

The clouds are high in the sky.  Winter is coming.
I had a sense today of how very, very short life is.
As if every interaction adds a plus or minus to the universe.
As if we, as individuals, control whether we add to or take away, whether we grow or deplete.

Today, I threw my hat in on the contribute side of the universe, because
as Nikki says--

it’s Thursday again already.

For Tuesday

For Tuesday

This is a poem for Tuesday.

whom I forgot until today.

How could I forget Tuesday?

It’s the day we put the garbage out.
The day I hit bottom with nothing to do.
I think it was the day I felt totally use-less and wanted to go to sleep?

But I did grocery shop and spent $90.  Bravo Tuesday!
I did manage to get dressed and go see a friend. Another Bravo for Tuesday!

I did my civic duty and watched the presidential debates (almost unbearable).
How come no one asked the hard questions—the ones that weren’t being answered?
I wanted to be in the audience-- demanding--
That would have made me remember Tuesday.

But now is better than never in this case.

Although I know I always have Tuesday next week.
